ALEXANDER HAMILTON by Ron Chernow & the Musical, Hamilton

 In Books

The hottest Broadway ticket is Hamilton, and no, I haven’t seen it. The cost of tickets are a bit rich for my blood. But, I have read the book that inspired the musical and am in awe of how this 832-page historical non-fiction book was turned into such a sensation.

Because of the musical, my book club decided to tackle Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. And let me tell you, it was NOT an easy read. At least not for me. I do have an appreciation for history, but at times the details dragged on and on. Detail beyond detail beyond detail, so many details that I had to set it aside for awhile.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the book was the feud between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Even Madison got involved, and their biting opinions were often spewed in the publications of their time. (Sound familiar?) How things don’t change.

I also really enjoyed learning about his tremendous impact on the birth of our country, the information about the West Indies, his wife and their children.

Overall, I did find the Alexander Hamilton to be an interesting read. If you’re a history buff interested on our founding fathers, this is a book not to be missed!
